Partnership with Canada

International Imaginove: zooming in on Canada!

In line with its international development logics, the Imaginove competitive cluster has signed partnership agreements with 7 foreign clusters. One was signed in 2009 with the Bureau du cinéma et la télévision du Québec (BCTQ: Quebec Film and Television Council) and another is being signed with the Computer Animation Studios Association of Ontario (CASO), located in Toronto.
Through these partnerships with Canadian clusters, in addition to exchanging good practices, Imaginove is developing and emphasizing direct links among members, dealing with such shared-interest topics as: innovation, business and talents. The partners are regularly invited to participate in top professional events and shows.

3 missions to Canada were organized to help Imaginove members establish promising contacts on site. Since then, and thanks to this, the Antole studio and the Take-Off agency have opened offices in Montreal.
For the past 3 years, business meetings with members of the clusters have been held during the Annecy International Animated Film Market (MIFA). More than 30 Canadian companies present! Well aware of the worth of this market, the BTCQ now has its own booth at the MIFA and more and more of its members are participating.
In 2011, the BTCQ participated in the media forum co-organized by Imaginove. Likewise, there are ongoing discussions about an event that might be held in Quebec.
On Sept. 12 an action plan for 2011-2014 was signed between the Rhône-Alpes Region and the Quebec Province. The idea is to strengthen these ties and allow the clusters to continue to extend their visibility over the North American market, for the one, and over the European market, for the other.
In 2012, the Imaginove/ CASO (Toronto) partnership will be signed, enlarging and expounding on expertise throughout the entire Canadian territory.

Eric Baesa, director of the Take-Off agency operating in Montreal for the past 3 years, emphasizes the importance of these partnerships: “As a marketing and communications specialist for leisure and entertainment industries, TAKE-OFF absolutely needed to have an advance base on the world’s 4th video-gaming platform which also includes an important film sector.
IMAGINOVE and UBIFRANCE helped us scout out the town and the market with a well-designed prospection mission. Thus in 2008 we were able to check out the potential of our settling in North America, and we opened a copy of our French structure there. We started “from scratch” with management and teams who had been given partial training in France so that we were able to easily embark our culture, processes and values.
At the time, for our first real move abroad, the French-language environment allowed us to better grasp the ins-and-outs of setting up a subsidiary.
3 years after opening, our turnover is undergoing yearly double-digit growth, and the Canadian company is prospering with its customers on the EAST coast. Next step: WEST coast – with the help of IMAGINOVE I hope!
