FOLIMAGE, a giant leap out into the wide world - Historical agreement signed with China.

For over 30 years Folimage, the French animation studio and Imaginove member, has defended original creations principally made in Valence, in the Rhône-Alpes region. This philosophy has paid off, and today the brand of this Drôme studio is renowned the world over. Further proof of this is the recent business trip to India by Jacques-Rémy Girerd.

Meanwhile, the animation market has changed considerably since the 1980s, today taking on a very global hue. In light of this, Folimage has set off on its first international venture. The choice made was the Beijing-based Vasoon studio in China, one of the largest growth markets for the upcoming years.

In 2010 a bilateral treaty was signed, streamlining co-productions between France and China. It’s in this spirit that Folimage set up a development partnership (not just service provision) for two feature films (one Chinese and one French, directed by Hefang Wei, a young Chinese woman, brilliant 2010 graduate of La Poudrière and director of the beautiful “Banquet of the Concubine”, now showing at Le Navire theater), as well as for two TV series (of which a Chinese adaptation of “C’est Bon” now in production at Folimage).
The Vasoon studio is based in Beijing and was founded in 1992. It’s considered to be a rising star of animation in China, with the release of its first feature film entitled “Kuiba”.
This agreement between Valence and Beijing represents possibilities for Vasoon to reinforce the structure of its editorial line. For Folimage, it’s a way of reaching out to many more Chinese viewers thanks to this partner’s backing and excellent market knowledge, thus helping the studio to face the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Official signing took place on Friday October 12 in Valence with Ms. Wu and Zhang present, as well as Mr. Bernard and Girerd.
